Sheeds- do u think he'll poach any of our players and staff
If all the posts about our list is so negative, I don't think KS will get a coaching gig next year.
However, assuming he does ,what suggestions do you have about offloading players to his new club ?
Do you think he'll take any of his offsiders ? If so, which ones are the stand out candidates?

Firstly, i'd be very surprised if he got a chance at another club. Melbourne would be a waste of his time. They need someone who can give it 5+ years of heart, soul and commitment, and Sheedy cannot possibly offer that.
But, on the off chance he did get the gig at Melbourne, i doubt he'd be poaching our has-beens. Not sure how closely you've looked at the Melbourne list, but their list has an even bigger backlog of dead wood requiring delisting than our list does, which is quite startling. Have a look for yourself (flagrant self-promotion, but anyway):

As to whether he'll be purloining the doyens and boffins amidst Essendon's football department, i'd say he's welcome to help himself. But whether Melbourne actually would allow him the freedom to pick and choose his football department staff in light of what has transpired at Essendon over the last 5 years, a time during which Sheedy having a carte blanche at Essendon has created serious problems, is highly debatable. No coach in the AFL will ever be allowed to run a football club with the same liberties as Sheeds had over the last 7 to 8 years.

No shit, Newton. But you can poach assistant coaches and footballing staff, and Timbercote asked in the thread title "do u think (Sheedy will) poach any of our players and staff".Essendon4eva wrote:Poach? the only way to get a player off another list is through a trade or the Pre-season draft. Not possible to 'poach' players in this league.
Not sure why you of all people would want to get in to disputing semantics. Vis-a-vis most people, that'd be tantamount to a vegan, anorexic albino challenging a gym junkie to an arm wrestle.

The new coach will have to do this instead.
Trades generally occur during "Trade Week"timbercote wrote:How did Hardwick, for example, arrive at Hawthorn. Was the coach's assistant position advertised.
By the way, does anyone know how trades occur.
All the club reps go to a venue and spend the first four days asking each other what they had for breakfast that morning (or other inane chat) before deciding on the last day (usually with only minutes to go) that they will swap player x for player y.
Some recalcitrant clubs refuse to play this game whilst others love the thrill of trying to get the necessary paperwork done in the dying seconds (this can lead to disappointment because the deadline is the deadline and the big bad AFL will not approve a trade if the paperwork is lodged a millisecond after closing time.
And that is how a trade is done in the AFL
