Vale Ian Redpath

Post by grassy1 »

One of Australia's best Cricketers in the 60's and 70's has left us,after passing Away at the Age of 83.

Affectionately known as Redders, this man was a Mr Dependable in Australian Test Cricket Team, who was a picture in hardheaded concentration and the ability to prove a stumbling block for pace attacks in International Cricket and quality bowlers like John Snow remarked upon how hard it was to get him out!

Despite the somewhat slow start in amassing his 1st Test Century,he got better as his International Career went, with the Runs and Centuries mounting up,particularly in his last Official Series against the West Indies in 1975/76,with 3 Centuries to add polish to a great Career!

Known as a Fair player in Sportsmanship, his respect in the game, whether playing for Australia,Victoria and no doubt his Club(for those who know better)was no doubt well earnt!

As an Opening Batsman,he was also Well known as the Batting Partner of Bill Lawry, which made the combination,a tough nut to crack!

Farewell Redders! You will never be forgotten, especially by your Team mates in Lawry and the Chappell Brothers' Teams,be it Establishment or World Series Cricket.
