What I simply cant believe is that knowing that there was a training session that he get himself into such a state that he'd have to miss training. Surely if you are going out for a few drinks and your a professional footballer you would moderate your behaviour to some extent such that you are able to train. I mean how many drinks did he have to NOT be able to train ?

I couldn't believe this when i heard it on the news driving home this afternoon. You should have heard the torrent of expletives in the car lol!!!

Just as we are playing good footy he goes and does this. Seriously you would have thought he would have learnt from the pre-season. We really needed Lovey this week against the Tigers and especially against the Pies in 2 weeks. Very very disappointing.

Bendigo don't play this week so i expect Dyson will come into the side. Hislop and Hocking are still battling niggling injuries at the moment.

Correct. He's a repeat offender. I called for him to be offloaded last year, and although he's played substantially better this year on a more regular basis, i still haven't changed my mind. Problem now is that any club interested in him knows he comes with baggage, so he wouldn't fetch a decent price.

Get a grip, cant believe some of you have mentioned trading him. What a joke. He has off field issues that none of you could understand or know about. EFC is a team, and u don't give up on teammates that easily. You help them, he needs help and he will get it. Man you lot are quick to jump off. You cant deny that he has brought excitement to the club, and you want to jump off just like that. You are called supporters for a reason. This is a learning year for everyone. Its just a early preseason for 2009. You call yourselves supporters...ACT LIKE ONE.

OK, I'll keep it simple for a simpleton.

Lovett gets what? 400k a year? To play football at a professional club. I put in a good portion of my money into memberships every year. He takes a slice of that. He is expected to comply with the club's code of conduct and team rules. He has disappointed the leadership group on a number of occasions and has been suspended from representing our club when it needs him most. Quite simply, I would rather him be fined by the club 25k instead of suspending him from playing. A monetary penalty may hurt him more. If that money was then divi'd up amongst the members, we'd all shut up. But until then, we shall state our opinions on the matter, and Lovett should be reminded that he is part of a professional football club and that he should - ACT LIKE IT.

You have to admire Knights in all this.

It would be easy to give Lovett one week, have him miss the Richmond game and get him firing for Collingwood. Ok, so we are pretty much out of the finals race but it is not a mathematical impossibility, if we keep winning games, etc, etc, I'm sure you have all heard it before.

But to send him to Bendigo for 2 weeks should send a big message to the playing group about the responsibilities they have to the club and it's members. And Lovett should be smart enough to realise that if he does not tow the line, he might find himself playing alongside Ty Zantuck up in the bush in the not to distant future.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt as you weren't around BT last year, but all my reasons for wanting him traded are here in the archives somewhere - i can't be bothered hunting them down. Nothing to do with me being a supporter/not being a supporter, jumping on/off bandwagons or anything like that.

Oh well, seems like he is very remorseful (again). I hope he sorts himself out and that he can give back the faith this club has in him. We have given him a second chance at AFL, and we are keen to make sure he makes the most of it. Now it's up to him to make the most of it....
Knights backs Lovett suspension

Andrew Lovett will miss Essendon’s next two games after being suspended by the leadership group for breaking team rules.

Lovett missed a compulsory training session on Monday morning after being out socialising the night before.

Matthew Knights said Lovett’s behaviour did not meet club standards and he had consulted with the leadership group to determine the punishment.

“It is very disappointing that this has happened,” Knights said.

“Andrew will be unavailable for selection for the next two weeks against Richmond and Collingwood but will play for the reserves (Bendigo) next week.
“It is unfortunate because Andrew has been playing really good football and, since his previous indiscretion earlier in the year, he has been exemplary in his training and his attitude.

“It was just a case of being out too late and having a couple of drinks and unfortunately he didn’t make the session. There is nothing sinister behind it and there was no trouble or anything, we just don’t think it was acceptable or in the best interests of our football club.

“It is a slip up from Andrew’s perspective. He is very disappointed and down on himself at the moment but it is just one of those incidents that has taken place and we have to move on and look forward to playing Richmond this week."

Knights said it is important for the club's culture - and for the future of the younger players - to make it clear that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable.

He also defended Lovett’s character saying he was disappointed for the fleet-footed midfielder because he knew how much he loved to play the game.

“He is a fantastic young man and is really good to coach,” Knights said.

“He listens really well and I actually have a strong relationship with him after coaching him at Bendigo a few years ago.
“It is disappointing because in full flight he is a beautiful player to watch. He is a fantastic finisher and we saw against Carlton with a couple of goals late in the game.

“It is certainly not the end of him at this football club. We have handed out a penalty which we believe is fair and we move on."

I'll just go on record as saying I don't want him traded.

love watching lovett play and he is one of my favourite players.

(I do not think this will do him any harm, i think it(suspension 2 weeks) is a good idea)

Knowing Carla and how close she is to the list and Club, I'll think I'll take her word on this one.
Lets be honest - Carla would support a player if he was a F****** serial killer...

I feel the same way, Lovey is still a very important player for us and trading him is out of the question.

I doubt very much he is on 400k. I'd be guessing closer to 100.

BUT to quote cartman, I AM SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW.

No need to apologise...there are quite a few people on here who have strong opinions and voice them regularly.

Keep posting as we need alternative views to get us all thinking (and by alternative, I mean different to other views, not strange) and your views as worth reading as anyone else's.

PS: You aren't the first to cop a spray from Gringo.....take it with a very large grain of salt and then keep posting :D
